“I’m not surprised Chris did something like that,” said the Lakers head coach about Chris Paul’s kind gesture.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Spurs‘ Victor Wembanyama and Chris Paul went above and beyond for Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s two sons.

Days before the Spurs-Lakers clash in Los Angeles, Redick lost his home in the Palisades fires. It destroyed all the sports memorabilia that belonged to his kids, Knox and Kai, that they accumulated during their father’s run as a podcast host before becoming the Lakers head coach.

After the Spurs’ win over the Lakers, Wemby and Paul gave the kids their autographed, game-worn City Edition jerseys to comfort them after they lost their home and memorabilia collection.

Redick and Paul were teammates with the Los Angeles Clippers several years ago, and the two became close friends and continue to be close.

“JJ is a part of my family. Him, his wife, those kids, Knox and Kai. I know a lot of people lost family members and homes and stuff like that,” Paul said. “It just hits different when people are close to you.”

Said Redick: “I appreciate all the love, and I’m not surprised Chris did something like that.”

For Wemby, it was not a question. He would do his part to comfort the young basketball fanatics affected by the wildfires.

“Chris asked me earlier if it was okay for me to do that. I didn’t know they were huge fans like this,” said the Spurs center. “JJ is a person I like, and that was directly impacted by this. If I can make the kid’s day, I’ll do it.”

The Lakers dedicated the Monday game against the Spurs to the first responders and the City of Los Angeles and held a moment of silence before tip-off.

“You can feel a lot of people are directly impacted by it, like a whole bunch of people. So, it’s sad,” Wembanyama said.
